CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising motorists in Northwest Georgia that the speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph from 65 mph on I-75 north and southbound between Exits 269 (Barrett Parkway) and 278 (Glade Road) effective today, July 12, 2007.

The speed limit reduction will be in effect for the duration of the project which is slated to be completed in spring 2009. The reduction is taking place now because crews are beginning to work directly adjacent to the travel lanes. “Georgia DOT is very concerned about the safety of all our construction workers and we are imploring motorists to slow down. Fifty-five is the upper limit; weather and traffic conditions may mean a slower speed is more prudent. But it is better to be safe than sorry”, says Georgia DOT Director of Construction Greg Mayo. Motorists are also reminded that speeding fines in work zone areas are doubled.

This road work is part of an 8.9-mile project of concrete paving on I-75 in Cobb Cherokee and Bartow counties, beginning at Barrett Parkway and extending to Glade Road. This project has been under construction since September 2006, and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2009, at a construction cost of little over $81 million.
