South Forsyth High School Marching Band “En Fuego”!
This year, South Forsyth High School’s Marching War Eagle Band is “On Fire”! This year’s marching show, entitled “En Fuego”, features a collection of Latin music and showmanship that brings the crowd to their feet during the half-time show at Friday night home football games.
The South Forsyth Marching War Eagle Band has grown under the leadership of Director of Bands, Mr. Paul Clark, and Associate Director, Mr. David Anette. Currently, 125 students are involved in the marching band program, including instrumentalists and color guard. Students commit many hours of practice time during the Summer and Fall to produce the marching show that is seen during half time at all football games. In addition to after school rehearsals, many students take private music lessons and participate in audition-only district and all-state band activities. And two students from South Forsyth are currently members of the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra (a highly competitive, audition-only youth orchestra in Atlanta). Senior Kyle Bauer and junior Amanda James hold two of only four clarinet chairs.
During the weekend of October 29 -31, the War Eagle Band traveled to St. Augustine, to participate in the Twelfth Annual “Ancient City Presentation of Bands.” Beginning the competition as one of 29 bands from Florida and Georgia—and, after qualifying for the Finals—ended the competition as 2nd Runner Up. Among the trophies received were Best in Class Soloist—for senior Richie Larkin’s trumpet solo performance—and Best in Class Drum Majors, for the leadership of seniors Chris Patton and Kayla Sargent.
During the 2004 Marching Season, the band has participated in two other competitions, The Branco Marching Classic and the Eagle’s Nest Invitational, receiving straight superior scores in both competitions.
