The Alpharetta Convention and Visitors Bureau will serve as a sponsor for the 2007 Planet3Games Summer Nationals June 29-July1, 2007, with Webb Bridge Park acting as the primary location. The Games include a myriad of recreational sports incorporating youth participation and are comprised of tournaments for boys and girls youth sports leagues ages 8-18 for baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, lacrosse and hockey. Tournaments will take place in several Alpharetta venues, including Webb Bridge Park, North Park, Union Hills and the Alpharetta Community Center.

As part of the three-day event, teams will participate in a minimum of three games, within each sport, as the field is narrowed to determine a champion. Players will receive gift bags from participating sponsors and a championship and runner-up medal will be awarded for teams in each sport. Sponsors of the games include: Bally Total Fitness, Humana, Enterprise, and the U.S. Marines Corp.

An awards ceremony, which will take place at Webb Bridge Park on Sunday, July 1st, will mark the completion of the games, along with a Family Fun Festival complete with plenty of rides, games and other family fun activities.

“The Alpharetta CVB is proud to assist Planet3Sports with organizing the Summer Games, providing an opportunity to showcase many of our City’s terrific recreational facilities, while also promoting youth involvement in sports,” commented Janet Rodgers, President and CEO of the Alpharetta CVB.

Alpharetta beat out cities such as Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; San Diego, CA; Mount Vernon, VA; and St. Petersburg, FL in the bid process for the Summer Nationals.

Howard Daniel, III, President of Alpharetta-based Planet3Sports, chose Alpharetta as the location for the national tournament because, “it is a very progressive area for amateur sports, with great weather and a central location to Metro Atlanta. Alpharetta is the perfect big-brand small city, providing great amenities and family fun attractions for families that wish to attend.”

Alpharetta serves as the ideal backdrop for the Summer Games because we have outstanding recreational and hotel amenities—both critical to the success of such events, agreed Rodgers.

Daniel also chose to headquarter his business in Alpharetta upon departure from the military due to the great business environment.

Registration for the event is $400 per team through June 1st with a percentage of all registration fees to be donated to the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. 150 teams are expected to round out the games. For more details about the event, visit www.awesomealpharetta.com and click on the Planet3Games link.
