September Short Courses Offer Fiber Optics Tech Training

Published Aug 21, 2008

Telecommunications experts and beginners alike are invited to participate in Georgia Southern University's two new short courses for training and certifying fiber optics technicians. Both courses will be taught by Peter Morcormbe, CFOT, CFOS/I, who has over 24 years of experience in high tech telecommunications and computers.

The entry-level Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) course will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, September 8 through Wednesday, September 10 at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah. Combining theory and 75% hands-on activities, the $625 course prepares students to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) test that is sanctioned by the Fiber Optics Association. The test is given and graded at the end of class.

Running Thursday, September 11 and Friday, September 12, the $600 Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing & Maintenance (CFOS/T) program offers specialist training on the testing and maintenance of fiber optics networks. Participants must complete the CFOT course first or have a year or more of related experience.

Both course fees cover materials but meals are on your own. To register, call (912) 478-5551 or visit http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/fiberoptics.html.
