Firefighters In Alpharetta Battle More Than Fires

Firefighters in Alpharetta battle more than fires. On Friday, August 8, 15 and 22, from 8:30-11:30 and some afternoons at various intersections in Alpharetta, firefighters will team up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association to “fill the boot.” These “Boot Drives” offer the community a chance to donate money that will be used in the battle against neuromuscular diseases.

This will be the third consecutive year that Alpharetta Fire Department has partnered with MDA. In 2007, the Alpharetta Fire Department raised more than $23,000. This year, with support from the community, they hope to surpass that amount.

The proceeds collected from the “Fill-the-Boot” Drive will aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups and a chance for children to attend the local MDA camp, Camp Walk-N-Roll, held in Rutledge, Georgia.

For over 54 years, firefighters and MDA have partnered to fight neuromuscular disease. MDA applauds these heroes, who not only battle flames, but muscular dystrophy. Please help “fill a boot” on August 8, 15 or 22 to make a difference.
