New Program Helping To Build The Next Generation Of Fulton County School Leaders

Published Oct 15, 2008

Twenty-seven Fulton County School System assistant principals were recently selected for the new and unique Promising Principals Program (3P). The program was designed with students in mind by the school district’s Department for Leadership and Professional Development to help build the next generation of school leaders.

Applicants were selected based on a number of criteria, including a recommendation from their supervising principal, their desire to serve as a future principal in Fulton County, a minimum of two years of experience as an assistant principal – and more.

“The V² Leadership Academy (vision and value-added) and 3P were formulated to identify, develop and support talented assistant principals who aspire to serve as exemplary school leaders,” says Dr. Gregory Fields, chief leadership and professional development officer for the Fulton County School District. “The high quality, value-added leadership training will ensure the continuous availability of exemplary school leaders for the future of our students.”

Program participants will each be assigned a principal leadership mentor, engage in field exercises, attend workshops, complete learning modules and develop a “Leadership Knowledge” project to demonstrate their readiness to serve as school leaders. The program is based on best practices as defined by the most up-to-date research. A commencement ceremony will be held in May 2009.
