Groundbreaking ceremonies are planned in October for two new schools opening next year. Although site work already has begun, the ceremonies allow school system officials, civic leaders and community members to gather and celebrate the new schools’ construction.

Ison Road Elementary School
Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.
(Raindate: Oct. 30 at 10 a.m.)
Architect: Collins Cooper Carusi
General Contractor: Evergreen Construction
Location: Ison Road near Roswell Road in Sandy Springs
The new schools are part of a large-scale school construction effort funded through the one-penny educational sales tax, SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax).
During each groundbreaking ceremony, the public is invited to the construction sites to view architectural designs, as well as hear from school officials about the schools’ planned features. Refreshments will be served following each ceremony. Comfortable shoes with low heels are recommended due to gravel and possibly some muddy areas on the site.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be postponed until their designated raindate. A groundbreaking (details to be determined) also is being planned for a new elementary school on Birmingham Highway in Milton, also set to open in August.
