The City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department received the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) “May is Older Americans Month” Award at the GRPA Annual Conference. The Department was recognized for providing a variety of programs to improve the public’s awareness and participation in “May is Older Americans Month.”
Programs offered for citizens age 50 and older include exercise, luncheons, day trips, arts and crafts, tennis and golf outings, and volunteer service opportunities through the Alpharetta Golden Age Club. During the month of May, the Department plans special programs for older adults to promote and celebrate the benefits of participating in recreation and parks activities.
“We are committed to providing quality recreation programs for citizens of all ages, and we especially take pride in the activities and services we offer to those aged fifty and older,” noted Mike Perry, Director of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department. “It is a great honor to be recognized for what we enjoy doing every single day.”
Lewis Lay, Recreation Supervisor II at the Alpharetta Adult Activity Center at North Park, accepted the award on behalf of the Department. Ms. Lay has been employed by the City of Alpharetta since 1988, which was the year that the Center opened to the public.
