City to Hold Meetings on Stormwater Management Program

Published May 19, 2008

The City of Roswell will hold several open houses on a proposed stormwater utility fee during the month of June at various locations throughout the City.

The City has been studying this issue for more than a year, assessing the needs of our stormwater system, determining how we can meet the new state and federal stormwater management regulations, and considering the best way to pay for the maintenance and upgrade. The City has developed a rate schedule to ensure equity is reflected in the bills.

The City will discuss the proposed rate schedule and its stormwater program at the following meetings:

Thursday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Willow Springs Subdivision

Tuesday, June 10 at 7 p.m. at Roswell Area Park

Tuesday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at Hembree Area Park

Tuesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Chattahoochee Nature Center

Wednesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center*

A stormwater utility is a common method used by local governments all over the country of generating funding to cover the expense of operating a stormwater management program. The fee paid is based on the amount of impervious surface area on each developed property in the City. Impervious surfaces are those areas that prevent rainfall from infiltrating into the ground. Examples of typical impervious surfaces found on most properties include rooftops, driveways, sidewalks, patios, parking lots, storage sheds, etc. Those properties with less impervious surface will pay less than properties with larger impervious areas.

We encourage all residents to attend one of the open houses to learn more about the fee schedule and Roswell’s stormwater management program.
